AD9361 to SXS046 Hardware Migration Checklist
PublishedοΌ2026-10-08 Β· Technical article
SXS046 is an AD9361 Pin-to-Pin Replacement for an existing hardware design. The physical footprint and pin mapping provide a practical starting point for a migration evaluation. They do not waive the need to verify electrical limits, timing, RF behavior, thermal conditions, register configuration, or driver behavior on SXS046 samples.
1. Package and pin checklist
- β Confirm the target assembly uses the applicable 144-pin CSP_BGA footprint and inspect the current ball-map revision.
- β Compare all power, ground, RF, digital and control pins with the latest SXS046 data sheet before release.
- β Review layout constraints around RF routing, return paths, decoupling and exposed thermal paths.
- β Retain board-level test points needed for bring-up and debugging.
2. Power and sequencing checklist
- β Recheck every supply rail, tolerance, current capacity, sequencing relationship and decoupling network against the SXS046 data sheet.
- β Measure rail ramp, ripple and inrush on the target board during bring-up.
- β Do not assume that a pin-to-pin mapping proves that no power review is required.
3. Clock and RF checklist
- β Verify reference-clock frequency, amplitude, source impedance and phase-noise budget for the application.
- β Treat existing loop-filter values as a starting point only; validate lock, spur and RF performance on samples.
- β Run receiver, transmitter, calibration and temperature tests in the actual system bandwidth and frequency plan.
4. Register and driver checklist
Pin-to-pin replacement describes physical package/pin compatibility. It does not mean register, driver or software compatibility. Existing AD9361 software may be used as a migration reference, but the SXS046 register configuration and driver behavior must be verified and adapted as needed.
- β Record the current register initialization sequence and operating modes.
- β Build a mapping and test plan for initialization, gain control, calibration, interface timing and error handling.
- β Validate the modified software with production-representative clocks, FPGA/processor and RF paths.
FAQ
Can an existing PCB be reused?
SXS046 is positioned for reuse of the existing hardware design through its pin-to-pin mapping. Confirm ball map, electrical, RF, timing and thermal behavior on the actual board before production.
Does pin-to-pin mean no software work?
No. Register configuration and driver behavior require validation and may require adaptation.
What should be prepared for an evaluation?
Provide the target clocking, frequency plan, bandwidth, data interface, board revision and current software initialization flow.
Can you provide pricing on this page?
Pricing is handled only through direct customer communication after the evaluation requirement is understood.
